BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University redshirt juniors
Carly Abbott and
Nicole Abbott were recognized Friday afternoon as the PSAC Champion Scholars for women's soccer.
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average at the PSAC championship site. In a unique twist, the twins have identical 4.0 GPA's through their first 106 credits at ESU. Both are majoring in special education and early childhood education.
Nicole Abbott is recognized for a second-straight year, joining former field hockey defender Sydney McCarthy as the only Warriors to receive multiple Champion Scholar awards. She has made 46 appearances across three seasons for ESU, totaling nine goals and four assists during that span. She has made 14 starts in the midfield in 2018, and became the first Warrior in two years to record a hat trick during a 6-1 win at IUP on Sept. 15.
Carly Abbott has appeared in 18 games across three seasons at ESU. After missing the 2017 season due to injury, she has seen action in four contests this fall, earning the start and playing all 90 minutes on the backline in a 3-2 win over Clarion last Saturday.
This is the third-straight year that an ESU player has received the Champion Scholar award for women's soccer, with former defender Andrea Polanco honored at the 2016 championship site. The Abbotts become ESU's 13th and 14th PSAC Champion Scholars since the program was instituted in 2011-12.
