MANSFIELD, Pa. –
Kelli Shapiro has totaled a season's worth of points in the last three games for East Stroudsburg University.
The senior continued her incredible offensive run on Saturday, scoring a career-high four goals while also contributing an assist in a 6-1 win for the Warriors at Mansfield to conclude the regular season.
ESU (15-3, 9-1 PSAC) will be the No. 2 seed in next week's PSAC tournament. After a first round bye, the Warriors will face either No. 3 Shippensburg or No. 6 Bloomsburg in a semifinal matchup at top-seeded West Chester on Friday.
Shapiro has 20 points (8 G, 4 A) during ESU's current three-game winning streak, with multiple goals in each of those victories. She is the first Warrior to score four goals in a contest since Robin Stevenson accomplished the feat in a 7-0 win over Mercyhurst on Sept. 10, 2016.
Senior
Ashley Ceschini added two goals and an assist for the visitors, who outshot Mansfield (8-10, 4-6 PSAC) by a 25-7 margin.
The score was tied 1-1 early in the second half, as Mansfield's Larissa Motts struck in the 43rd minute to cancel out Shapiro's opener 28:07 into the contest. ESU, though, scored five times in a span of 18:23 to put the game out of reach.
Shapiro and Ceschini traded goals during the 5-0 run, with Shapiro putting the Warriors ahead for good on an unassisted strike 10:33 into the second half. A Shapiro corner then set up Ceschini for a blast from the top of the circle which doubled the ESU advantage in the 52nd minute.
Shapiro completed her hat trick with 12:20 remaining in regulation. Senior
Paige Harrold assisted on Ceschini's second goal less than two minutes later, and Ceschini found Shapiro on the left side of the circle to complete the scoring with 6:04 left.
Ceschini has multiple goals in each of the last two games, as she also netted a pair in ESU's 6-2 win over Molloy on Wednesday.
Shapiro joins junior
Karly Conway as the only Warriors to score three or more goals in a game this season. Her 20 points in the last three contests have vaulted her into the team lead with 33 points (12 G, 9 A) overall on the year.
The Warriors earned their 14th straight victory over Mansfield. They outscored opponents by a 68-13 margin during their 18 regular season contests.
