Huge Fourth Quarter Push Sends ESU Women’s Basketball Past Caldwell at Home, 62-53

EAST STROUDSBURG – A 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter by the ESU women's basketball team propelled the Warriors to a 62-53 victory against Caldwell University on Tuesday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (2-1) trailed by six points entering the fourth quarter and would eventually knot the score 51-51 with 5:22 remaining following a jumper from junior Tiffany Lapotsky. Redshirt freshman Julia Kutz would give ESU the lead for good as her layup with 3:55 remaining made it 53-51.
 
Caldwell (0-1) struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, going just 2-of-12 from the field and 0-of-4 from downtown. The Cougars, who outscored ESU 17-13 in the opening quarter, tallied just six points in the final quarter of play.

Lapotsky paced ESU offensively with 20 points and six rebounds. The Ashland, Pa. native went 8-of-11 at the free-throw line in the contest, while the Warriors as a team went 9-of-16 from the charity stripe. Kutz, who was a medical redshirt last season for ESU, tallied a career-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting in the contest. Kutz also notched three rebounds and one block, while sophomore Kaitlyn Swint tallied a career-best 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting for ESU.
 
Andie Lennon topped the Cougars with 19 points and four assists. Lennon finished 6-of-14 from the field while adding six rebounds and three steals. Tamrin Henderson notched a game-high seven boards in the contest to go along with 11 points for Caldwell, while Tina Lebron hit a trio of shots from 3-point range to finish with 11 points.
 
Caldwell would gain the momentum early in the contest, shooting 44 percent from the field in the opening quarter. ESU would slow down the Cougar offense a bit in the second quarter and trim the deficit to 22-17 before seeing Caldwell stretch the lead to double-digits with a 5-0 run.
 
ESU would head into the locker room trailing 30-24 after Lapotsky converted on a pair of late free throws.
 
The Warriors trailed by as many as 13 points early in the third quarter but found some offensive rhythm with under 3:30 to play in the stanza. ESU outscored Caldwell 8-2 and would cut the deficit to 47-41 with one second left on the clock following a layup from Lapotsky.
Caldwell recorded just two field goals over the final 6:11 of play in the contest as ESU outscored the Cougars 14-6 in that span to clinch their first victory at home this season.
 
ESU hits the road for a pair of matches next week as the Warriors will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for a 6 p.m. contest against Chestnut Hill on Nov. 20 and head back to Philadelphia five days later for a 2 p.m. matchup against Jefferson on Nov. 25.
