PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Late free-throws in the fourth quarter propelled the Chestnut Hill College Griffins past the East Stroudsburg University Warriors, 71-66, on Tuesday night in a non-conference women's basketball matchup.
The Warriors (2-2) held a 51-46 lead entering the fourth quarter and would stretch their advantage to 57-52 with 7:19 remaining before the Griffins started their comeback. ESU connected on 44 percent of its 3-pointers in the first half but made just 3-of-16 in the second half.
Chestnut Hill (1-3) went 14-of-28 from the field in the second half and took its largest lead (69-63) with 25 seconds remaining in the contest. The Griffins would finish the contest 8-of-12 at the free-throw line and 20-of-28 on the night.
ESU was paced by a game-high 17 points from junior
Tiffany Lapotsky. She finished 6-of-16 from the field to go along with four assists and two steals. Sophomore
Marlene Bassett tallied 16 points while recording one block and one steal for the Warriors. Sophomore

Noelle Powell each connected on three 3-pointers in the contest. Junior
Jordan Hertz tied a career-high with 11 rebounds in the contest to go along with six assists and eight points.
Jaeda Wildgoose paced three players in double-digits for the Griffins with 16 points. Wildgoose also notched a game-high 15 rebounds. Abbey Spratt tallied 11 points for Chestnut Hill, while Mary Trossi added 10 points. Shannon Glenn recorded eight points and eight rebounds for the Griffins while going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.
The Warriors forced 20 turnovers in the contest but would only turn those miscues into 11 points. The Griffins made the most of their chances off turnovers, tallying 13 points. ESU held a lead for a majority of the contest after breaking an 8-8 tie in the first quarter off a layup from sophomore
Kaitlyn Swint. She would tally five consecutive points for the Warriors in the midst of a 10-2 run.
Both sides would swap the lead late in the fourth quarter as ESU knotted the score 63-63 following a pair of made free-throws from Bassett with 2:54 remaining. The Griffins took the lead for good off a pair of successful free-throws from Glenn with 51 ticks left on the clock. Powell connected on a late trey for the Warriors to trim the deficit to 69-66 before Chestnut Hill closed out the contest with a pair of shots at the free-throw line.
ESU is back in action on Nov. 25 as the Warriors travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Jefferson at 2 p.m. The Warriors return home to open PSAC play against Mercyhurst inside Koehler Fieldhouse on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.
