West Chester Tops ESU Men’s Soccer 1-0, Eliminates Warriors in PSAC Semifinals

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kyle Hoops scored the lone goal of the game 32:56 into the first half, as top-seeded West Chester eliminated defending conference champions East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC semifinal round on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors (9-8-1) likely see their season come to an end, as they were unranked in the most-recent NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings released on Wednesday. The Golden Rams, ranked No. 13 in the latest national coaches' poll, advance to play Millersville in Sunday's PSAC championship game.

Hoops' marker came in the ensuing seconds off a free kick from the left side. Teammate Brett Miller flicked a pass over to Hoops, who headed a shot past senior goalkeeper Will Boerema into the near post.

Boerema made a season-high seven saves in goal to keep ESU within striking distance throughout. Three of those saves came during a span of 48 seconds in the later stages of the second half. West Chester led 16-9 overall in shots, with a 10-4 advantage after the intermission.

The Warriors, though, nearly equalized in the 89th minute, as senior Eddy Enowbi fired a shot which beat the goalkeeper but was cleared out at the left post by a Golden Ram defender.

ESU had one last chance in the final minute after earning its fourth corner kick, but an ensuing shot from the top of the box was fired well over the crossbar.

Enowbi had a team-high three shots, while senior Jo Panuccio and graduate student Jordon Ellison had two apiece. West Chester's Will Marshall finished with a pair of saves in goal to earn the clean sheet.
