Warriors Drop Overtime Decision at Edinboro, 93-89; Lapotsky Paces ESU with 25 Points

EDINBORO, Pa. – A 3-pointer with less than two seconds left on the clock allowed the Edinboro University Fighting Scots to force overtime and eventually record a 93-89 victory against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors in a PSAC women's basketball crossover matchup.
 
ESU (3-5, 1-2 PSAC) held a nine-point lead with 7:42 left in the fourth quarter but would see the Fighting Scots chip-away at the deficit with time winding down. The Warriors had a pair of late chances at the free-throw line but would go 1-for-2 both times. Edinboro (4-2, 2-1) tallied 43 points at the free-throw line in the contest and went 24-of-28 between the second half and overtime frame.
 
Junior Tiffany Lapotsky paced ESU with 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the Field. Lapotsky also added seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Marlene Bassett notched a double-double for the Warriors, finishing with 21 points and 13 boards to go along with four assists. Sophomore Amanda Pike hit a game-high four 3-pointers for ESU and finished with 15 points, while junior Jordan Hertz added nine rebounds and nine assists for the Warriors.
 
Michaela Barnes connected on her lone trey of the contest and knotted the score at 75-75 with 1.7 seconds left for Edinboro. Barnes finished the contest with a career-high 42 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine boards. She also set a Fighting Scots all-time program mark with 19 made free-throws and 24 attempted free-throws. Michelle Jahn tallied 21 points, six rebounds, and five steals for Edinboro, while Jontay Walton added 14 points and five assists.
 
Sophomore Abby Schoffstall would give ESU a 77-75 advantage early in the overtime frame with a layup off an assist from senior Noelle Powell. The next trip down the court Schoffstall would give the Warriors a four-point cushion. Powell connected on a 3-pointer with 2:45 left to make it 84-80 after the Fighting Scots trimmed the deficit to one with a pair of made free throws.
 
Momentum would change for Edinboro with 1:19 left in overtime as Hertz would be called for a technical foul and allow the Fighting Scots four opportunities at the charity stripe. Edinboro would go 3-for-4 at the line with Barnes hitting a pair to give her team the lead for good. Jahn tallied the final three points of the contest at the free-throw line to preserve the 93-89 victory for Edinboro.
ESU finished the contest 33-of-76 from the field and 17-of-22 at the charity stripe. The Warriors tallied a season-high 52 rebounds and 25 assists but would also be forced into a season-high 21 turnovers by the Fighting Scots. Edinboro shot just 31.8 percent (21-of-66) from the field but hit 8 3-pointers in the contest and finished 43-of-53 at the charity stripe.
 
The Warriors continue their season-long seven-game road trip with a non-conference matchup on Dec. 15 in Garden City, N.Y. against Adelphi at 2 p.m. ESU returns to Koehler Fieldhouse on Jan. 9 with a 6 p.m. matchup against PSAC member, Lock Haven.
