ESU Men’s Basketball Rolls at Cheyney, 95-74

CHEYNEY - East Stroudsburg University put six players in double figures, led by 14 points by redshirt junior forward Josh Williams, in a 95-74 win at Cheyney in PSAC East men's basketball on Monday night at Cope Hall.

Junior guard Nick Giordano scored 13 points, redshirt junior guard Jakwan Jones and sophomore forward Kobi Nwandu scored 12 and redshirt senior forward Steve Harris and senior forward Ralik Wise had 11 each for ESU. Jones added six rebounds, six assists and three of the Warriors' 16 steals, and sophomore guard Montrel Morgan had eight points.

ESU (17-5, 14-4) moves into a tie in the loss column for the PSAC East lead after Monday's results, as fourth-place Kutztown knocked off division leader Shippensburg, 92-85 (2OT).

West Chester (19-5, 15-4), ESU and Shippensburg (18-5, 14-4) all have four conference losses, with Kutztown (17-5, 13-5) one game back.

ESU, which has won three straight and six of its last seven around a road loss at Shippensburg on Jan. 31, travels to Bloomsburg on Wednesday and hosts West Chester Saturday, part of a three-game week. The Warriors will play 22 conference games and have four remaining.

Jeff Lewis had a game-high 16 points for Cheyney (2-20, 2-16), which has dropped 11 straight, including a 103-62 loss at ESU on January 27. Lewis had 19 points and 13 rebounds in the first meeting.

Imir Bailey scored 12 points and Cliff St. Juste added 10 for the Wolves.

ESU outscored Cheyney 19-3 to end the first half, taking a 54-35 lead after holding just a 35-32 advantage with 6:30 left in the half.

Including a 7-0 run to start the second half, ESU's stretch was 26-3 in just over eight minutes - including 19 straight after closing the first half on a 12-0 push.

ESU, which led by as many as 34 (77-43) with just under 14 minutes left, won its 19th straight vs. Cheyney since the Wolves won both meetings in 2008-09.

The Warriors entered as the NCAA Division II leader in turnovers forced (22.8) and steals (12.5), and second in turnover margin (+8.1) and assists (20.8). They held a 28-18 turnover margin, including 16 steals, and had 23 assists on 30 field goals.

ESU led the PSAC and ranked fourth in DII in scoring (93.6 ppg) entering the week, coming off a 118-102 win vs. Lock Haven last Thursday.

Of note on ESU's single-season and career lists, Giordano moved into eighth in career three-pointers (122), and freshman guard Marc Rodriguez moved into a tie for third in made three's on ESU's freshman leaderboard (43).

Junior guard Kitt Najee Walls (4 points, 3 assists) moved into fifth in career assists (352), breaking a tie with All-America shooting guard Whis Grant, who had 349 from 2011-15.
