Evan Steele turned in East Stroudsburg University's second and third strong starting pitching performances of the weekend, but the Warriors dropped a pair of non-conference baseball games to Saint Anselm on Saturday.
The Hawks won 3-2 in the opener with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and 4-0 in the nightcap with a complete game two-hitter from JJ Dunn.
Zavada, a transfer from Lackawanna CC, allowed two runs on two hits, struck out two and walked two in 4.1 innings for ESU (0-3) in game one.
Steele, making his first career start after five relief appearances as a freshman, threw four no-hit innings before getting touched for two runs on one hit and three walks in the fifth. He went 4.2 innings, struck out four and walked four overall.
Sophomore
Connor Johnson threw 5.0 shutout innings, allowing four hits, in an eventual 11-6 loss vs. Le Moyne in the season opener on Friday.
In Saturday's opener, Adam Krol blanked ESU for the first four innings, while Saint Anselm scored once in the third on a hit batter, single and fielders choice, and again in the fourth, on a walk, sacrifice bunt and fielders choice.

Laine Renaud after a one-out double in the top of the sixth, and Saint Anselm scratched out the go-ahead run on a double and RBI single off redshirt senior
Mike Pepio, who relieved Zavada in the fifth and got out of a one-out, one-on spot.
Zane Byrne (1.1 IP, 1 hit, 1 strikeout, 1 walk) earned the win for Saint Anselm in relief, and Brian Wojichowski got out of the seventh. The Warriors got the tying run to third, on a one-out walk by sophomore SS
Joey Paolini and two-out single by junior OF
Zarley Cina, before Wojichowski got a groundout to seal the save.
In game two, Dunn yielded two hits, struck out eight and walked one in the complete game effort for Saint Anselm.
Steele faced one over the minimum through 4.0 innings, but Saint Anselm got on the board with two in the fifth with a walk, single, two more walks and a wild pitch after Steele was relieved by redshirt junior
Matt Durkin.
The Hawks scored two more in the seventh on a two-out single by Tyler McKeon.
Saint Anselm had eight hits on the day and drew nine walks and two HBP; ESU had six hits, six walks and one HBP.
ESU plays USciences on Sunday at 12 p.m.
