Cardow, Zimmerman Lead ESU Swimming on Day 3 of PSAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – Senior Allison Cardow lowered her school record in the 200-yard butterfly in each of the two sessions, and senior Kate Zimmerman earned an 11th place showing in the 100 breaststroke to highlight Day 3 of the PSAC Swimming Championships for East Stroudsburg University on Friday.

Senior Colleen Dwyer and sophomore Tarah Killane also advanced to 'C' finals in their respective events for the Warriors. The team of sophomore Olivia Lukshides, Zimmerman, Cardow and Killane closed the evening with a 10th place finish in the 4x800 freestyle relay (8:03.52), moving ESU's points total up to 343. The Warriors are ranked seventh in the team standings, 44 ahead of California in eighth place.

Cardow entered the meet with a top time of 2:11.30 in the 200 fly. She lowered that down to 2:11.19 while qualifying for the 'B' final in the morning preliminary session, and she registered a 14th place finish with a career-best time of 2:10.77 in the evening.

ESU has now set six new program bests in the first three days of the competition. Cardow has placed in the top 16 in each of her three events, as she was 12th in the 200 individual medley and 13th in the 100 fly. Her final individual event is the 200 backstroke on Saturday.

Zimmerman also scored for the third time in as many events at the championships. She posted a season-best mark of 1:06.66 as the No. 13 qualifier in the prelims, and she moved up to 11th after touching the wall in 1:07.06 at night. Zimmerman has 11 top-16 finishes at PSAC's in her collegiate career; she will compete in the 200 breast on Saturday.

Killane qualified for the 'C' final in the 500 free with a season-best time of 5:15.15, and she lowered that mark down to 5:14.40 in the evening to earn a 19th place finish overall. Her finals time was less than three seconds off her PR of 5:12.19 which ranks No. 2 in program history.

Dwyer just missed out on the 'B' final in the 100 back, as her preliminary round time of 59.42 was 0.21 back of 16th place. She went on to tie for first place in the 'C' final with a season-best time of 59.36. Dwyer's PR in the event of 58.88 ranks No. 2 all-time at ESU.

Killane and Dwyer will take part in the 1,650 free and 200 back, respectively, on Saturday.

The Warriors had two additional program record book performances in the morning session. Freshman Taylor Howery registered a personal-best time of 1:01.65 in the 100 back which ranks her No. 7 in program history, and freshman Julia Harnish is now No. 10 all-time in the 100 breast after she touched the wall in 1:10.09. Freshman Samantha Christman added a PR of 5:35.63 in the 500 free.

The 2018 PSAC Championships wrap up on Saturday with prelims and finals in the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast and 1,650 free, while the final relay is the 400 free relay. The morning session starts at 10 a.m., and finals get underway at 5 p.m.
