ESU School Records
YORK, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University's best performance at the PSAC Swimming Championships in over 15 years ended in fitting fashion on Saturday: with two more school records.
Senior
Annie Fagan lowered her own program-best in the 100-yard freestyle, and she teamed up with sophomore
Olivia Lukshides, senior
Colleen Dwyer and junior
Briana Hall for a new ESU record in the 400 free relay to conclude the four-day meet. Those performances, along with five additional scoring efforts on Day 4, gave the Warriors a final total of 456 points which ranked them seventh in the team standings. That finish is the highest for the program since the 2001-02 team placed sixth at PSAC's.
Fagan took over a second off her previous season-best while qualifying for the 100 free 'A' final with a time of 53.03. She then lowered that down to 52.71 while replicating her seventh-place finish in the event at last year's championships. Fagan was 0.13 quicker than her 'A' final time at the 2017 conference meet.
She was one of three Warrior scorers in the event. Lukshides was the final qualifier for the 'B' final after touching in at 53.55 in the preliminaries, and she ended up 13th overall with a finals time of 53.43. Hall, meanwhile, just missed out on the 'B' final as the No. 17 qualifier in the morning (53.62). She recovered to post a personal-best time of 53.31 in the evening which placed her 18th in the event and ranks No. 3 in program history.
ESU's 400 free relay team's record time of 3:33.67 was 0.03 quicker than the previous program best from 2013, and it gave the Warriors a fifth-place finish in the event. That showing is the best for ESU in a relay at PSAC's since the 200 free relay team in 2004 took third place. The Warriors end the week with eight school records in four days, including new program bests in 3 of 5 contested relays.
Seniors
Allison Cardow and
Kate Zimmerman wrapped up their standout ESU careers with 'C' final qualifications in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Cardow placed 24th in the 200 back with a personal-best mark of 2:11.79 which is No. 4 all-time at ESU. She scored in all four individual events she participated in at PSAC's, placing in the top 15 in three of those races and breaking school records in two.
Zimmerman took 19th place in the 200 breast with a PR time of 2:26.96 which is No. 3 in program history. She also scored in all four individual events this week, and she leaves ESU with 14 individual scoring performances at PSAC's over her four collegiate seasons.
Sophomore
Tarah Killane registered the other scoring performance for the Warriors on Day 4. She placed 15th in the 1,650 free after touching the wall in 18:12.28. Killane scored in all three distance events at PSAC's, with today's result her top effort of the meet.
Freshmen
Taylor Howery,
Julia Harnish and
Samantha Christman also entered the program record books in their preliminary swims. Howery is now No. 10 in the 200 back (2:15.90), Harnish is No. 10 in the 200 breast (2:34.45) and Christman lowered her previous No. 10 time in the 1,650 free (19:21.98).
ESU beat out eighth-place Edinboro by 35.5 points in the final team standings, and the Warriors were 67 points ahead of California in ninth place. West Chester totaled 1,884 points to earn its 12th straight PSAC title; Bloomsburg followed in second place with 1,159 points.
