ABERDEEN, Md. - Sophomore Connor Johnson threw 5.0 scoreless innings in the opener and senior catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. had four hits, including three for extra bases, as East Stroudsburg University swept Clarion (8-4, 7-2) in non-conference baseball on Thursday at the Ripken Complex in Aberdeen.

ESU (9-6) was led offensively by Zimmerman (4-for-8, 2 doubles, triple, 2 RBI, 3 runs), sophomore SS Joey Paolini (3-for-5, walk, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and junior OF Zarley Cina (3-for-8, 3 doubles, 4 runs).

Johnson yielded just two hits, struck out four and didn't issue a walk while blanking Clarion over five frames in game one. He lowered his season ERA to 4.44 in 24.1 innings (22 strikeouts, 7 walks) while earning his first decision in five starts.

Five Warriors pitchers held Clarion (5-10) to four hits in the nightcap.

Senior 1B Laine Renaud hit his fifth home run of the season, tied with Cina for the team lead, in the second game.

In the opener, Zimmerman and Paolini both had two of ESU's eight hits and the Warriors scored in four innings.

Cina had a leadoff double and scored on a two-out RBI single by Renaud in the first inning, and ESU scored three in the third to open a 4-0 lead. Freshman 2B Brainy Rojas doubled to start the frame, Zimmerman had an RBI double, freshman 3B Brock Kauffman hit an RBI single and redshirt junior DH Christian Rishel had a sacrifice fly.

Zimmerman hit a leadoff triple, the fourth of his career, and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Paolini had an RBI single in the sixth as the Warriors plated three on one hit, three walks and an error.

Clarion scored its four runs in the seventh, three earned, on four hits off redshirt freshman Nate Fiala, who threw the final 2.0 innings and had entered with a 3-0 record and 2.19 ERA in 12.1 innings across five relief appearances this spring.

Zimmerman and Cina both notched two hits in the nightcap, and ESU plated two runs in each of the first three frames.

Sophomore Carson Freeman (2.0 IP, 2 unearned runs, 2 hits, 2 strikeouts, 0 walks) was the winning pitcher in a scripted game on the mound, as the Warriors surrendered just four hits and one walk.

Junior Logan Zavada (2.0 IP, strikeout, walk), redshirt senior left-hander Mike Pepio (1.0 IP, 1 hit), redshirt junior Matt Durkin (1.0 IP, 1 hit) and sophomore Evan Steele (1.0 IP, 2 strikeouts) all had scoreless outings.

Cina led off the bottom of the first with a double, Zimmerman singled, Kauffman lifted a sacrifice fly and Renaud had an RBI while reaching on an error to make it 2-0.

After Clarion scored a pair in the top of the second, senior OF Charles Edwards tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rojas, and Zimmerman clubbed an RBI double for a 4-2 lead through two innings.

Renaud homered in the third, and Rishel doubled and scored on an RBI single by Paolini.

Paolini walked and scored on an RBI double by Rojas in the sixth.
