EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore
Carson Freeman didn't allow an earned run over 6.0 innings and had two hits at the plate, and senior
Laine Renaud and sophomore shortstop
Joey Paolini both homered in an 11-run second inning as East Stroudsburg University posted a 13-2 win in the nightcap of Saturday's PSAC East baseball doubleheader vs. Kutztown.
ESU (17-14, 6-8 PSAC East) and Kutztown (13-13, 7-9) split this weekend's series, 2-2. ESU won 6-1 in game one on Friday, and Kutztown won 6-3 in Friday's second game and 15-6 in Saturday's opener.
Freeman was 3-for-6 with a double, walk, two RBI, two runs and three stolen bases in Saturday's doubleheader – and went 6.0 innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk to earn the victory in the nightcap.
ESU had 23 hits in the doubleheader, including 13 – eight for extra-bases, with six doubles and two home runs – in the second game. The Warriors also drew 11 walks and a hit batter for 35 total baserunners.
Renaud homered in both games, his sixth and seventh of the season, and was 4-for-7 with a double, six RBI and two runs. Senior catcher
Steven Zimmerman, Jr. had a pair of multi-hit games, going 4-for-7 with a double, two RBI and a run. Paolini added a 3-for-5 day with two doubles, a homer, two walks, four RBI and three runs.
Catcher Nick Lafferty hit a pair of home runs and had six RBI for Kutztown in the opener as the Golden Bears scored in six of their seven innings at the plate.
Redshirt junior
Mike Sulcoski hit a solo homer for ESU in the fourth, Renaud hit a three-run homer in the fifth and Paolini doubled and scored in the sixth. Renaud was 3-for-3 with a double, homer and three RBI, and Zimmerman was 2-for-3.
KU's Anthony DeVito got the win with 5.0 innings (4 runs, 9 hits, 5 strikeouts, 3 walks).
In the nightcap, the Warriors jumped on Kutztown starter Stephen Wagner, Jr. early – tagging him for eight runs (seven earned) and eight hits in 1.1 innings.

Christian Rishel had an RBI single in the first before ESU sent 15 batters to the plate in the second.
The 11-run inning is tied for ESU's biggest vs. a PSAC East school in the last 15 years, along with an 11-run first inning in a 19-6 win at Mansfield in 2014.
ESU had nine hits in the inning, including a pair of hits by Paolini and Freeman.
Redshirt junior
PJ Van Orman and Paolini doubled to open the frame, Edwards had a bunt single and Freeman a two-RBI single to help his own cause and make it 5-0.
After the first out of the inning, Kauffman reached on an error and Rishel had an RBI double before a strikeout for the second out.
The next six batters reached base – starting with Renaud's three-run homer to left-center. Van Orman walked, Paolini hit a two-run homer (his fourth of the season), Edwards walked, Freeman doubled and Zimmerman had a two-RBI single to make it 13-0.
Kutztown scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third, but Freeman surrendered just a hit and a walk the rest of the way, including 1-2-3 innings in both the fifth and sixth.
Senior
Nick DiEva struck out two in the seventh.
Five Warriors had multiple hits in the 13-hit barrage, which featured 11 in the first two innings.
Freeman was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs; Zimmerman was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run; Rishel was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run; Paolini was 2-for-3 with a double, homer, walk, three RBI and two runs; and Edwards was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
The bottom three hitters in the order – Van Orman (1-for-2, double, 2 runs), Paolini and Edwards – reached safely in their first nine plate appearances, going 5-for-5 with four walks.
Zimmerman led ESU in the series, going 7-for-13 with two doubles, a walk, HBP (to set ESU's career record with 34), five RBI and three runs, and Freeman was 6-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, walk, three RBI, six runs and four stolen bases.
Sophomore
Evan Steele pitched ESU to its 6-1 win in the series opener, going 5.2 innings (unearned run, 6 hits, 4 walks) and striking out 10, including the final batter in each of his five complete innings – four times with a runner in scoring position.
