EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Sarah Smith totaled 16 kills in the opener, and she added 12 kills and a career-high nine aces in the nightcap to help East Stroudsburg University post 3-0 sweeps over USciences and Merrimack on Saturday while continuing its unbeaten start to the 2018 season.

ESU is 4-0 for the first time since 2009. The Warriors will look to keep the momentum going at Koehler Fieldhouse next weekend, as they begin a two-day, two-court tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday with a matchup against Caldwell.
Match 1: ESU 3, USciences 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-17)
Smith was the lone player to reach double-digit kills in the opening match, and her 16 kills came with a strong .419 attack percentage. The Warriors trailed by at least four points in every set, but rallied from behind on each occasion.
The deficit was 17-12 in the first set, when a Smith kill began a 12-3 run which put the home side in front 24-20. The Devils (0-2) took the next two points before another Smith kill wrapped up the frame.
USciences held an 8-3 advantage in Set 2, but this time the Warriors used a 12-2 stretch, highlighted by seven straight points on the serve of freshman
Hailey Jones, to take a comfortable 15-10 lead. The visitors pulled back within one at 16-15 before a 9-1 run, capped by a kill from Pyle, clinched the set for ESU.
The Warriors then quickly erased an early 4-0 deficit in the third set, winning eight of the next nine points and never trailing for the remainder of the contest.
Junior
Sam Dunphy contributed eight kills with a .294 attack percentage in the victory, while senior
Tina Predojevic supplied 34 assists and freshman
Emily Meredith added 20 digs. ESU hit .226 as a team, and the Warriors limited USciences to a -.031 attack percentage.
Match 2: ESU 3, Merrimack 0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-20)
Smith's nine aces against Merrimack were tied for the most by an ESU player since at least 2002. She fired in five consecutive aces during an 8-0 run that helped ESU erase a 15-9 deficit and jump in front 17-15 in the opening set. The home side continued to pull away after that stretch, with back-to-back kills by Pyle and Coyle ultimately finishing up the set.
ESU's 13-point margin in the second set was its largest of the season thus far. Smith then totaled four kills and three additional aces in the third set to help ESU complete the sweep.
Coyle joined Smith in double figures with 10 kills (.450%) in the victory, and she also totaled eight digs and a pair of aces. ESU had 15 aces overall across the three sets.
Pyle added seven kills with a .455 attack percentage, and Dunphy had a team-high four blocks. Predojevic (29 assists, 10 digs) was the lone ESU player to record double-digit digs.
