EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt senior tailback
Jaymar Anderson has been named PSAC East Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his 239-yard, six-touchdown performance in carrying East Stroudsburg University to a 41-34 non-conference win over Seton Hill on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Anderson set a school record and tied a PSAC record with his six rushing touchdowns as the Warriors, who trailed 27-13 entering the fourth quarter, rallied past the Griffins.
His 239 rushing yards, which came on 32 carries, are fourth-most in school history and mark the second-best performance in NCAA Division II through two weeks.
Anderson ran for 200 yards for the second time in his last three starts, and earned his second career PSAC East weekly award. He had 30 carries for 200 yards and three TD in a 37-27 win at Lock Haven in week 10 last season.
Anderson was first team All-PSAC East, led the division in rushing (95.1 ypg) and ranked third in the PSAC overall in 2017. He ran for 1,046 yards, sixth-most in school history, and had seven rushing TD.
After missing last week's 49-17 loss at No. 8-ranked Ferris State (Mich.) due to injury, Anderson had 14 carries for 128 yards and two TD – including a 49-yarder midway through the second quarter – in the first half on Saturday night.
He had 20 carries for 180 yards entering the fourth quarter, then churned out 12 carries for 59 yards and four TD in the final 15 minutes. He scored the go-ahead TD, his fifth of the game, on a 28-yard run with 5:08 remaining.
Anderson's six rushing TD shattered ESU's previous record of four, set six times, most recently by all-time leading rusher Robert Healy at Mercyhurst in 2016.
His six total TD are one from ESU's school record – behind Jon Schnaars' seven receiving TD in a 69-67 (5OT) loss vs. Shippensburg in 2015 – and tied for second-most in PSAC history.
He is the fifth PSAC player with six rushing TD.
Anderson had his seventh career 100-yard game in 12 starts, after posting six in 11 games last season.
He is the second ESU player with multiple 200-yard games in his career, joining Andre Myers, who did it twice in 1998.
ESU travels to Edinboro (2-0) for a 12 p.m. match-up on Saturday. The Fighting Scots feature their own standout running back in Walter Fletcher, second in DII in rushing (158.2 ypg) last season.
