EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Jules Sicker and sophomore
Haley Skove scored in the opening half, and East Stroudsburg University added two more tallies after the intermission to get back on track with a 4-0 victory over Mansfield on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors (2-2-1, 2-1-1 PSAC) snapped a brief two-game losing streak while the Mountaineers (0-5, 0-5 PSAC) remained winless on the year. Juniors
Monica Wood and
Amy Strauser added the insurance goals in the second half.
ESU controlled the game from the outset, holding a 20-0 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes. Final shots were 33-2, with freshman
Mauri Jackson not required to make a save while registering a shutout in her collegiate debut between the pipes.
Sicker opened the scoring in the 30th minute, taking a pass from Wood and beating goalkeeper Stephanie Moir in a 1-on-1 situation. The goal was the first of the year for Sicker, who was tied for the team lead with seven strikes a year ago.
Skove doubled the margin just under five minutes before the break, heading in Strauser's corner for her second goal of 2018.
Wood has now scored in 4 of 5 games for the Warriors. Her team-leading fifth of the year was tucked into the lower left-hand corner in the 53rd minute after a lead-in pass by senior
Alex Pickett.
Pickett has assists in four games this season, and she is up to 15 for her collegiate career.
Strauser capped the scoring with 2:40 remaining in regulation, drilling a hard shot into the upper left corner.
The Warriors improved to 10-0 lifetime at Eiler-Martin Stadium against Mansfield; they are 18-2-2 in the series overall.
ESU returns to the road on Saturday, traveling to IUP for a PSAC contest at 1 p.m.
