Box Score  |  Highlights

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University faced a team ranked No. 1 in Division II for the sixth time in the past four seasons on Wednesday, and the Warriors were once again more than up to the challenge.

Senior Paige Harrold scored a pair of goals, while sophomore Lexi Hartmann and senior Kelli Shapiro added solo strikes to lift No. 3 ESU to a dominant 4-0 victory at No. 1 Shippensburg. The Warriors (3-1) improved to 5-1 over their past six matchups against No. 1 ranked opponents, as they handed the two-time defending national champion Raiders (3-1) their first loss of the season.

Junior Maddie Richie made three saves in goal to secure her second-consecutive shutout. ESU has outscored its opponents, all of whom were nationally-ranked, by a 12-3 margin in its first four games this fall.

Hartmann opened up the scoring with her first collegiate goal 10:05 into the opening half, as she took a pass from junior Sara Ober and beat Raider goalkeeper Ally Mooney.

Ober picked up another assist with just under seven minutes left in the half when she set up Shapiro for her first goal of the season (12th overall at ESU). The Warriors then added a third tally three minutes later on an unassisted strike by Harrold, taking a 3-0 advantage into the intermission despite being outshot 9-7.

Harrold quickly added another insurance marker 2:16 into the second half, beating new goalie Megan Lay to make the score 4-0. The York, Pa., native registered the first multi-goal game of her ESU career.

Shippensburg maintained a 13-12 edge in shots at the end of the contest, but ESU led 11-3 in shots directed on goal.

With the win, the Warriors avenged a 2-1 loss to Shippensburg at the DII Final Four in Louisville, Ky., last season. ESU and Shippensburg have been ranked in the top three nationally for each of their last seven meetings, with the Warriors now holding a 4-3 advantage in the series during that stretch.

ESU returns to Whitenight Field on Saturday, hosting Mercyhurst for a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
