Cardoso, Panuccio Spur 2-1 Comeback Win for Warriors at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior Erik Cardoso leveled the score in the 51st minute, and senior Jo Panuccio converted a penalty kick with under six minutes remaining to give East Stroudsburg University a 2-1 victory at Slippery Rock on Saturday.

The Warriors (6-3, 3-2 PSAC) earned their first comeback win of the season at the expense of the Rock (3-5-2, 1-2-1 PSAC). Senior Will Boerema made four saves in goal to help secure the victory.

Slippery Rock jumped ahead on its second shot of the game in the eighth minute. Kenton Kesslar found some space in the center of the box and beat Boerema for his first goal of the season.

Cardoso equalized at 50:08 after heading in a corner kick by senior Eddy Enowbi. Cardoso, a transfer from Judson University, tallied his first goal across 34 collegiate appearances while Enowbi recorded his third career assist as a Warrior.

ESU increased its pressure following Cardoso's marker, ultimately generating nine of the game's 13 shots in the second half. The pressure was rewarded with a foul in the box by the home side in the 85th minute. Panuccio then converted from the spot to put the Warriors ahead for the first time.

SRU had two late chances to tie in the final five minutes. Anthony Werth had a shot cleared away by the ESU backline at 86:19, and Boerema saved a header from Luke Picchi to seal the win with 25 seconds left.

The Warriors improve to 24-10-1 lifetime against Slippery Rock, and they earned their first road win in the series since 2011.

ESU returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Lock Haven for a road game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
