No. 1 ESU Field Hockey Blanks Seton Hill, 6-0

GREENSBURG – No. 1-ranked East Stroudsburg University scored three goals in each half, rolling to a 6-0 win at Seton Hill in non-conference field hockey on Saturday afternoon.

Six players scored and four more added assists for the Warriors (5-2), coming off a 2-1 (OT) loss vs. No. 3 West Chester on Thursday before they open their PSAC schedule at two-time defending national champion Shippensburg on Wednesday. ESU won 4-0 at then-No. 1 Shippensburg in a non-conference game 10 days ago to move into the top spot in the national poll.

Senior Makenna Marhefka had a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors, assisting on ESU's third goal of the game late in the first half, and scoring the fourth just over three minutes into the second half.

Junior Grace Martini, freshman Celeste Veenstra (first career goal) and sophomore Lexi Hartmann scored in a seven-minute span late in the first half for ESU.

Marhefka and junior Karly Conway made it 5-0 at the 45-minute mark of the second half, with sophomore Samantha Bruttomesso-Clarke scoring in the final four minutes.

Junior Emily Spangler, senior Paige Harrold, senior Bailey Quinn and sophomore Lea Hughes added assists for ESU.

The Warriors had a 32-3 advantage in shots, including 25-0 in the first half.

Junior Maddie Richie played the first 45:42 and was not forced to make a save. Sophomore Margaret Fulton had two saves in 24:18 in relief.

Emma Jorgensen played the first half and had 15 saves for Seton Hill (0-6). Elizabeth Armbruster followed and had three saves in the second half.

ESU improved to 9-0 vs. Seton Hill, all since 2012, by a 44-9 margin.

ESU has outscored its first seven opponents by a 25-5 differential entering Wednesday's match-up at Shippensburg (6-1), which has won three straight at Mansfield (6-3), vs. Seton Hill (11-0) and vs. IUP (4-2) since its only loss of the season vs. ESU.
