Pickett’s 25th Goal Helps ESU Women’s Soccer to 6th Straight Win, 2-0 at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK – Senior forward Alex Pickett scored her 25th career goal to open the scoring and freshman goalkeeper Mauri Jackson had two saves for her fifth shutout in six starts, leading East Stroudsburg University to its sixth straight victory with a 2-0 win at Slippery Rock in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday afternoon.

Pickett scored in the 60th minute on the first career assist by junior back Syd Hicks, and junior forward Amy Strauser added a 72nd-minute goal, assisted by freshman forward Mallory Johnson, as ESU improved to 7-2-1 (7-1-1) with its fourth straight shutout.

ESU extended its scoreless minutes streak to 440:42, fourth-longest in the last 15 years, and Jackson has allowed just one goal in her first 551:45 in goal.

The Warriors have a 17-1 goal differential during their six-game winning streak after a 1-2-1 start, following a 3-2 (OT) loss at Seton Hill on September 8.

Slippery Rock (6-3-2, 4-3-2) is 0-2-2 in its last four games after opening 6-1.

Pickett, a two-time All-Region selection, scored for the second straight game after netting the game's only goal in the 50th minute of a 1-0 win vs. Shippensburg on Wednesday.

She is the seventh player with 25 career goals in program history, posting two goals and six assists through 10 games this season after registering 23 goals and 11 assists in her first three campaigns.

Hicks' assist, her first career point, comes in her 56th career game and 55th start, playing as a defensive midfielder as a freshman before moving to back as a sophomore.

Strauser had her third goal of the season and the eighth of her career, while Johnson has two goals and four assists.

ESU improves to 6-0-2 vs. Slippery Rock since the start of the 2014 season, the first of its record-setting four straight PSAC championships.

The Warriors have advanced over SRU in the PSAC Tournament in each of the last three years – 2-1 (at Gannon) in the semifinals in 2015, followed by quarterfinal wins in 2016 (5-0) and 2017 (2-1).

ESU had a 13-7 advantage in shots, and 7-2 in shots on goal. Kylie Downs had five saves for the Rock.

The Warriors travel to Lock Haven, which is 4-2-1 entering a 3 p.m. match-up at Gannon on Saturday, on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
