No. 12 ESU Women’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Goldey-Beacom

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Del. – Melayna Immediato opened the scoring late in the first half, and Sophie Greenwood added an insurance marker midway through the second, as Goldey-Beacom handed East Stroudsburg University a 2-0 setback in the Warriors' 2018 road opener on Wednesday.

ESU, which was ranked No. 12 in the most-recent United Soccer Coaches DII national poll released on Tuesday, suffers its first defeat to a non-PSAC opponent since falling 2-1 to nationally-ranked Adelphi in September, 2016.

The Lightning (3-0) remained unbeaten on the year while outscoring opponents by an 11-2 margin during their first three contests. Goldey-Beacom went 12-5-2 in 2017, including a 1-1 draw with ESU at Eiler-Martin Stadium last September.

Immediato's opener came in the 35th minute, as she won a scramble in front following a corner kick from teammate Samantha Carey. Greenwood's tally came off a free kick from just under 20 yards out in the 69th minute.

Shots were 10-8 in favor of Goldey-Beacom. Junior Jules Sicker registered ESU's only two shots on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Megan Young finished with four saves for the Warriors.

ESU returns to PSAC play this weekend, traveling to Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday. The Warriors return to Eiler-Martin Stadium next Wednesday, hosting Mansfield at 3 p.m.
