Box Score
ALBANY, N.Y. – Shane Herrity totaled 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the floor, leading four Saint Rose players in double figures during an 89-72 victory over East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday night.
The Warriors (9-3) saw a nine-game winning streak come to an end, as they dropped their first contest since Nov. 11 at Shaw. The Golden Knights (5-8) shot lights out from the field early on to stop a four-game losing run.
Saint Rose hit 10 of their first 12 field goal attempts, including all six from 3-point range, to take a 27-6 advantage less than eight minutes into the contest. The margin grew to as large as 34 points before the hosts ultimately took a 57-25 lead into the intermission.
ESU got as close as 15 points in the closing minutes, outscoring Saint Rose by a 47-30 margin in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Warriors suffered only their fourth double-digit defeat in their past 72 games overall.
Freshman
Ryan Smith registered his third double-double this season with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the visitors. He has scored in double figures in nine of his first 11 collegiate appearances.
Redshirt senior
Jakwan Jones added 13 points, four steals and three assists for ESU, while junior
Montrel Morgan chipped in 11 points.
The Golden Knights shot 57.1 percent (32 for 56) from the field in the win, and they were 61.9 percent (13 for 21) from beyond the arc. Matt Cerruti (16 points), Sekou Sylla (16 points) and Adam Anderson (15 points) joined Herrity in double figures.
ESU had won its previous nine games by an average of 18.4 points, with each victory in that span by double figures.
The Warriors will look to quickly get back on track this Saturday, when they travel to No. 25 Shippensburg for a 3 p.m. road matchup. ESU is one game ahead of the Raiders (11-3, 5-1) for first place in the PSAC East standings.
The Warriors have won 19 straight games vs. PSAC opponents dating back to a defeat at Shippensburg on Jan. 31 last season. The Raiders, meanwhile, had a 27-game home winning streak end with a 74-67 loss against Shepherd earlier this evening.
