Warriors Knock Off No. 20 West Chester, 3-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team knocked off 20th-ranked West Chester by a 3-0 final on Wednesday to pull even with the Golden Rams for the third spot in the PSAC East Standings.

After falling to West Chester (8-3, 7-3 PSAC East) in the opening meeting between the two teams earlier this season, ESU (8-3, 7-3 PSAC East) was able to get even with a convincing three-goal victory this time around. The win marked the third time this season the Warriors have defeated a ranked opponent.

ESU took an early lead over the Golden Rams in the 13th minute of play on an own goal. Corryn Gamber sent a cross into the middle of the box, where it deflected off a West Chester defender and past goalkeeper Brooke Myers to put the Warriors on top.

Later in the period, Melissa Herrera made it 2-0 ESU on her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Jules Sicker carried the ball down the sideline and dished it to Herrera at the top of the box. The rookie corralled the pass and fired a shot that banged off the inside of the far post and across the line for the goal.

After carrying a two-goal lead into the break, the Warriors added to their advantage just five minutes into the second half. Monica Wood lofted a pass inside the box, where Gamber ran onto it, took a touch, and slotted a shot into the lower right corner to pad the ESU lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute. The tally was Gamber's fourth of the season.

From there, the ESU defense and Mauri Jackson held WCU scoreless to come away with the 3-0 victory. Jackson made three saves in net to collect her eighth win and sixth shutout of the year.

The Warriors return home to face Kutztown this Friday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. from Eiler-Martin Stadium.
