Sam Dunphy and sophomore
Jasmine Mooney combined for 12 kills on Wednesday night as the East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team won its seventh-straight match, defeating Pace 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-21) inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
ESU (19-4) recorded its fifth-straight shutout and improved to 10-1 at home this season. The Warriors are 4-0 on their current six-game homestand and return to PSAC action this Friday and Saturday.
Eight different Warriors recorded at least one kill in the match against the Setters as Dunphy and Mooney led the way with six each. Sophomore
Clare Davison notched five kills, while senior
Jasmine Williams added four kills for ESU. Freshman
Rachel Cain notched 18 assists for the Warriors, while senior
Sarah Smith added a team-high eight digs and three kills.
Pace won the opening three points in the first set to take a quick lead against ESU only to see the Warriors six of the next seven points to gain a 6-4 advantage. Freshman
Jessica Irwin gave the Warriors a 10-7 edge following a kill off an assist from Cain.
A 5-0 run increased the Warriors' lead to 16-9 before another 5-0 rally stretched the advantage to 21-10. Following a block by the Setters that ended ESU's run, the Warriors closed the set with a 4-0 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-11 victory. A block by Irwin and redshirt junior
Trea-sure Ketter clinched the set for ESU.
With the second set tied 8-8, ESU used a 3-0 rally to take an 11-8 lead off a kill by Smith. Leading 12-10, Davison delivered three of her kills in the match to help the Warriors increase their advantage to 17-11. ESU closed the set on a 3-0 run as Dunphy delivered a kill along with an ace from Cain to secure the 25-16 victory.
The third set started in the Warriors' favor with three consecutive kills from Mooney along with an ace from sophomore
Kayla Lugo, which put ESU in front of the Setters, 5-0. The Setters answered with a 3-0 rally before a kill by Williams stopped the run. Trailing 8-5, Pace would rally to knot the score 8-8.
ESU won four of the next five points to take a 12-9 advantage following an attack error by the Setters. The score would change hands several times throughout the set as ESU took a 21-19 lead late in the set off an ace from freshman
Erin Lutz. Pace rallied to knot the score 21-21 until Mooney gave the Warriors a 22-21 edge with a kill. The Warriors won each of the next three points as a block by Williams and sophomore
Caylinn Davis secured the 25-21 victory and the 3-0 sweep.
The Warriors host Bloomsburg and Lock Haven this weekend at Koehler Fieldhouse to conclude their six-game homestand. First-serve against the Huskies on Friday night is scheduled for 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest against the Bald Eagles is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
