BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The doubles pairing of junior
Quinn McCluskey and senior
Marina Zardet advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 PSAC Individual Championships hosted by Bloomsburg University on Saturday. McCluskey and Zardet also competed in the singles competition.
McCluskey and Zardet, who entered with a 2-1 mark this season playing together, would face Clarion's Alexis Strouse and Katie Benson in the opening round. The Warriors duo advanced to the quarterfinals following an 8-4 victory against Strouse and Benson.
In the quarterfinals, McCluskey and Zardet would be matched up against Slippery Rock's Viola Lugmayr and Lois Page. Viola and Page, who entered the tournament as the top seed, would defeat McCluskey and Zardet 8-0.
Zardet would draw the 12-seed in the singles competition and face Mercyhurst's Athina Tsagkaraki in the opening round. Tsagkaraki would be victorious in straight sets against Zardet 6-3, 6-0.
McCluskey, who was seeded 19th, would be paired against Page in her opening-round match. Page won in straight-sets against McCluskey 6-0. 6-1.
The Warriors will host three consecutive home matches at Wolbers Courts against Saint Thomas Aquinas (Oct. 7), Edinboro (Oct. 11), and Mercyhurst (Oct. 12).
