LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball program tallied another 3-0 sweep on Friday night as the Warriors defeated Lock Haven by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-11 at Thomas Field House.
ESU (25-6, 15-3 PSAC) recorded its second victory of the season against the Bald Eagles and notched 10 service aces in the match.
Senior
Sam Dunphy joined fellow senior
Sarah Smith as a member of the 250 kills and 250 digs club as she finished the match with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs for the Warriors. Dunphy is the fourth Warrior since 2004 to record more than 250 kills and digs in a single season. Smith added 10 kills and seven digs, while freshman
Rachel Cain tallied 31 assists and three aces.
The Warriors raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set as Dunphy notched a kill off a set from Cain. Sophomore
Jasmine Mooney increased ESU's advantage to 7-2 before capping a 3-0 rally for the Warriors to make it 10-3.
ESU stretched its lead to 17-9 in the set as Smith and redshirt junior
Trea-sure Ketter delivered a block. The Warriors closed the set on a 3-0 run as Smith and Dunphy notched back-to-back kills before an attack error by the Bald Eagles secured the 25-15 victory.
Lock Haven tallied the opening point of the second set before ESU countered with a 5-0 run, which included a pair of aces from Cain. Another 3-0 rally increased the Warriors' advantage to 9-2 as Dunphy and Ketter delivered another block for ESU.
The Warriors would take a 14-4 lead in the set before Lock Haven rallied for five unanswered points to trim the deficit to 14-9. A kill from Mooney ended the run by the Bald Eagles until a 3-0 rally put Lock Haven within three points of the Warriors.
A pair of 3-0 rallies helped the Warriors to gain momentum again in the set as a block by Smith and Ketter made it 21-14. A kill from Dunphy secured the 25-19 victory in the set for the Warriors, who took a 2-0 lead against Lock Haven.
Sophomore
Kenzie Guimont helped to give ESU a 4-2 lead in the third set via a solo block and later made it 7-3 with a kill off a set from Cain. The big swing in momentum in the set would come with ESU leading 9-6. A 6-0 run stretched the Warriors' lead to 15-6 before a 4-0 run two points later made it 19-7.
A 5-0 rally put the Warriors up 24-9 in the set before Lock Haven ended the run with consecutive points. An attacking error by the Bald Eagles would end the set and the match as ESU secured the 25-11 victory.
The Warriors close the 2019 regular season on Saturday with a 5 p.m. matchup against the Bloomsburg Huskies. The PSAC Volleyball Championship opens with four quarterfinal contests on Tuesday as each of the four divisional winners will serve as hosts.
