LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A late goal from
Jules Sicker propelled No. 23 East Stroudsburg to a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven on Saturday at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Haley Skove and
Monica Wood also tallied goals for the Warriors in the match.
The Warriors, who clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament following Wednesday's victory, earned their sixth straight PSAC win in the triumph over Lock Haven. ESU improved to 12-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play, while Lock Haven dropped to 3-10-2 on the year and 3-10-1 in PSAC East play.
ESU netted the game's first goal just over six minutes into the action.
Jessica Woodbyrne sent a cross into the middle of the box, where Skove knocked a header past goalkeeper Karly Trillhaase to put ESU on top. The goal was Skove's fifth of the year, as she's now tied for second on the team in scoring.
ESU was able to double up its lead later in the half on Wood's fifth goal of the year.
Corryn Gamber slotted a quick pass to Wood, who shot low right for the goal, increasing the ESU lead to 2-0. The tally moved Wood into a tie with Skove and Gamber for second-most on the Warriors this season.
Right after the Warrior goal, Lock Haven's Rosie Swartz took the kickoff all the way to respond quickly with the team's first score of the game. Swartz weaved her way into scoring position and drilled one into the top shelf to bring Lock Haven back within a score, 2-1.
The Bald Eagles were able to even the match at 2-2 just before the halftime break. After a blocked shot, Megan Ramaley picked up the loose ball and shot inside the far post for the game-tying score.
ESU outshot LHU 7-3 in the opening half and held a 6-0 advantage on corners, but the Bald Eagles were able to convert of two of their three shots for scores to send the game into the halftime break knotted at 2-2.
ESU applied tons of pressure on Lock Haven in the second half, but wasn't able to find the go-ahead goal until late in the contest on Sicker's fourth goal of the season. Sicker flicked the ball past a defender and slotted one to the left of Trillhaase, who came off her line. The tally gave the Warriors a 3-2 advantage with just 11:23 remaining.
East Stroudsburg was able to hold Lock Haven off for the remainder of the match to come away with the 3-2 victory. The Warriors held a 19-8 shot advantage in the contest, including an 8-3 margin in shots on net. Corners also went in favor of ESU, 10-0.
Mauri Jackson picked up the win in net for ESU, which was her 12
th of the season.
ESU has its final road regular season game this Wednesday, November 6 at Millersville at 5 p.m.
