Lapotsky Tallies 1,000th Career Point for Warriors; ESU Falls on the Road Against No. 16 IUP, 65-50

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior guard Tiffany Lapotsky became the 17th player in East Stroudsburg University women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her collegiate career on Sunday as she tallied a game-high 22 points. No. 16 IUP would come away with the 65-50 victory on the afternoon.
 
ESU (2-3, 0-2 PSAC East) dropped its second PSAC crossover matchup this weekend but would give the Crimson Hawks a battle down to the final buzzer. The Warriors trailed by just six heading into halftime and trimmed the deficit to three before IUP used a big run in the fourth quarter to push past ESU.
 
Lapotsky, who finished with a season-high 22 points, went 7-of-20 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line for ESU. She now has 1,007 points during her career with the Warriors and sits just 19 points behind Shannon Schwilk for 16th all-time in program history.
 
Senior Dominique Rayam and freshman Claire Courter each scored six points for the Warriors in the contest, while junior Kaitlyn Swint finished with four blocks and two steals for ESU. Senior Jordan Hertz added a team-high six rebounds to go along with five assists and four steals.
 
The Warriors held several leads against the Crimson Hawks in the first quarter as Rayam hit a jumper with 6:04 left on the clock to make it a 5-4 contest. IUP would take an 8-5 advantage with just under five minutes to play before redshirt sophomore Julia Kutz finished a layup in the paint to make it 8-7.
 
IUP pushed its lead to 17-13 with less than a minute left to play in the quarter before the Warriors answered with a bucket of their own. Laptosky finished a layup in the paint with 23 ticks left on the clock to make it 17-15.
 
ESU trimmed the deficit to 19-17 in the second quarter following a layup from Lapotsky before IUP increased its advantage to seven with 4:38 left to play in the frame. The Warriors would go on a run late in the half to cut the deficit to 26-23 as Lapotsky made one of her two attempts at the charity stripe. The Crimson Hawks would take a 30-24 lead into the half as IUP got a layup to fall with four ticks left on the clock.
 
The Warriors outscored IUP 14-11 in the third quarter and quickly trimmed the gap to 30-28 after getting a layup from Rayam off an assist from Swint. ESU would later work to cut into an eight-point deficit against the Crimson Hawks as a made free-throw from junior Marlene Bassett made it 41-38 with just over a minute left to play. Both teams would finish the quarter without making another bucket.
 
A one-possession contest would turn into a double-digit advantage for the Crimson Hawks early in the fourth quarter. A layup from Rajah Fink with 6:06 left to play made it 52-38 in favor of IUP. The first points of the quarter for ESU would come at the free-throw line with 5:46 left to play as Kutz made one of her two attempts.
 
ESU worked to cut the deficit with less than two minutes left to play in the contest as Courter drained her first collegiate 3-pointer to make it 65-47. She followed with her second trey of the contest with 19 seconds left on the clock to cut the gap to 65-50.
 
The Warriors host Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse in a non-conference matchup beginning at 5 p.m. ESU will be back in action at home on December 1 as the Warriors host Jefferson in another non-conference matchup beginning at 1 p.m.
