Warriors Drop Exhibition Matchup against St. Francis Brooklyn, 84-62

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team dropped an 84-62 decision on Wednesday night in an exhibition matchup against NCAA Division I member St. Francis Brooklyn.
 
ESU (4-3) built a nine-point advantage with 3:12 left to play in the opening quarter before the Terriers answered with a 13-0 run to close the quarter and take an 18-14 edge into the second quarter. St. Francis Brooklyn outscored ESU 40-28 inside the paint and scored 19 points off Warrior turnovers.
 
The Warriors were paced by senior Tiffany Lapotsky, who finished with a team-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Lapotsky went 2-of-3 from downtown and tallied a team-high seven rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Julia Kutz paced three other Warriors who finished in double-digits with 13 points. Senior Jordan Hertz and redshirt junior Sadie Cresswell each scored 10 points for the Warriors.
 
Lapotsky would tally 10 of ESU's 14 points to open the contest, including a pair of treys. Her jumper with 3:12 left in the opening quarter gave the Warriors a 14-5 advantage over the Terriers.
 
Cayln Richardson started the comeback for the Terriers, going 3-for-3 at the charity stripe with 2:57 left in the quarter. Jenna Jordan knotted the score at 14-14 for St. Francis Brooklyn with 1:24 on the clock before Jade Johnson gave the Terriers a 16-14 edge off a fast break.
 
The Terriers stretched their lead to double-digits late in the second quarter as a layup made it 40-29 with just over a minute to play in the half. St. Francis Brooklyn closed the scoring with a trey to take a 43-31 lead into the half.
 
ESU quickly cut into the deficit on the scoreboard to start the third quarter as Hertz drained a 3-ball to make it 43-34. Hertz followed with five consecutive points to trim the gap to 43-39 with 8:24 left in the quarter. Four points would be the closest that ESU would get to knotting the score as the Terriers increased their advantage to double-digits (52-41) with 5:35 left to play in the quarter.
 
The Terriers would lead by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter as St. Francis Brooklyn outscored ESU 16-9 to secure the 84-62 victory. The Warriors connected on seven 3-pointers in the contest but allowed the Terriers to go 21-of-26 at the charity stripe while earning just one trip to the line themselves.
 
ESU returns to Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday for a PSAC crossover matchup against Clarion beginning at 1 p.m.
