Tiffany Lapotsky scored a game-high 22 points and redshirt sophomore
Julia Kutz added 10 points and seven rebounds as the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team defeated Clarion 74-53 on Saturday inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
ESU (5-3, 1-2 PSAC) recorded its first conference victory of the season and moved to 4-0 at home this season as the Warriors have won four consecutive games against the Golden Eagles.
Lapotsky went 10-of-16 from the field to go along with four assists and one steal, while Kutz went 5-of-10 along with three assists and one block. Junior
Abby Schoffstall added nine points and five boards for ESU, while junior
Kaitlyn Swint finished with eight points and two blocks. Junior
Kiersten Librizzi scored a season-high seven points for the Warriors.
Redshirt junior
Sadie Cresswell opened the scoring in the contest as her 3-pointer less than 10 seconds into the contest made it 3-0 in favor of ESU. The Warriors extended the lead to 7-2 following a layup from Kutz with 7:48 left on the clock. The Golden Eagles rallied to trim the deficit to 17-16 with just over three minutes to play in the quarter following a trey from Celeste Ryman.
Clarion opened the second quarter with a trey to knot the score 22-22 and would take a 25-22 advantage following a 3-ball from Olivia Brooks with 9:05 left to play in the half. The Warriors would quickly get the lead back following a timeout as Schoffstall finished a layup in the paint.
Both sides would trade the lead until Lapotsky finished a layup off the fast break to make it 30-27 with 4:23 left in the half. ESU increased its advantage to 32-27 off a layup from Kutz after senior
Jordan Hertz stole the ball for the Warriors. Lapotsky scored the final nine points of the half for ESU to give the Warriors a 41-31 lead heading into the break.
The Warriors opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run as Hertz drained a trey to cap the scoring and make it 50-31 in favor of ESU. Lapotsky extended ESU's lead to 56-35 with 5:18 left in the quarter off a layup. Freshman
Claire Courter hit a 3-ball with 1:25 left in the quarter to give ESU a 64-40 advantage.
Librizzi finished a layup in the paint with 4:13 left on the clock to give the Warriors a 24-point cushion. Her layup with 2:18 left in the contest made it 73-49 as she took a feed from Cresswell inside the paint. Clarion closed the contest with a trey as Ryman connected with 16 seconds left on the clock.
ESU finished the contest 29-of-60 from the field and 13-of-18 from the charity stripe. The Warriors also held a 44-35 advantage in rebounding against the Golden Eagles. ESU finished with 20 assists and nine steals in the contest while forcing Clarion into 17 turnovers. The Golden Eagles went 7-of-16 from downtown but hit just 19-of-57 shots in the contest.
