Morrissey’s Win at No. 4 Singles Propels ESU Women’s Tennis Past Stockton, 4-3

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Senior Lauren Morrissey tallied the decisive point at the No. 4 singles position for the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team on Monday in a 4-3 victory for the Warriors against Stockton University.
 
The Warriors (3-3) recorded a pair of wins in doubles action and would take a 1-0 lead into singles competition against the Ospreys, where the Warriors won three matches. Stockton (7-5) saw a pair of singles matches come down to decisive third sets at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions.
 
Junior Marina Zardet and sophomore Quinn McCluskey paired for a second straight day at No. 1 doubles for the Warriors as the duo recorded an 8-3 decision against Stockton's top pairing of Emily Steinberg and Maria Ibarra. Morrissey and sophomore Amanda Jackson outlasted the Ospreys' Sarah Richardson and Hailey Johnson, 9-7, at No. 2 doubles for the Warriors.
 
Both teams tallied three victories in singles competition as ESU notched wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to go along with Morrissey's win. Zardet improved her singles record to 4-1 this season for ESU with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the top-spot against Ibarra. Jackson would be victorious in straight-sets against Stockton's Renee Wornowicz at the No. 3 spot.
 
Morrissey rallied from a 6-2 defeat in the opening set of her match against Stockton's Brooke Samuels with a 6-3 win to force a decisive third set. Morrissey outlasted Samuels 10-8 to secure the 4-3 victory for the Warriors.
 
Stockton notched a No. 3 doubles victory to go along with individual wins at the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 positions. The Ospreys' Hailey Johnson recorded a 10-7 third-set victory at the No. 6 position against sophomore Briana Young after rallying with a 7-6 victory in the second set.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Thursday against Albany State at 8 a.m. before heading to Jefferson on March 29 for a 2 p.m. matchup.
