ESU Women’s Tennis Falls 6-1 against Carroll in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Marina Zardet and sophomore Quinn McCluskey improved to 3-0 on the season as the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on Wednesday against Carroll University in Hilton Head, S.C.
 
The Warriors (3-4) would force a pair decisive three-set matches at the No. 1 and No. 5 singles positions against the Pioneers, while senior Lauren Morrissey won at No. 4 singles for the Warriors. Carroll dominated the singles competition, winning five matches after tallying wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.
 
Zardet and McCluskey tallied an 8-3 win at the top doubles spot for the Warriors against Carroll's duo of Grace Krueger and Shanna Mogden. The Pioneers rallied for a pair of close victories to take the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
 
Krueger and Mogden each notched wins for the Pioneers at the top-two singles positions. Krueger won the opening set of her match before seeing Zardet force a third-set with a 6-1 win. The point would go to Carroll as Krueger outlasted Zardet with a 10-5 decision.
 
Freshman Charity McLeod forced a third set at No. 5 singles after knotting her match thanks to a 6-4 victory. Carroll's Vanessa Ignatew would be victorious with a 10-6 decision for the Pioneers. Sophomore Briana Young fell at the No. 6 position for the Warriors following a tie-breaker in the opening set. Carroll's Audrey Schleich won the tie-breaker 8-6 and followed with a 6-4 winner in the second set.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Thursday against Albany State at 8 a.m. before heading to Jefferson on March 29 for a 2 p.m. matchup.
