Warriors Defeat Albany State 6-1; ESU Women’s Tennis Goes 3-1 in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A 6-1 victory for the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team against Albany State on Thursday helped the Warriors to go 3-1 during their trip to Hilton Head, S.C.  
 
The Warriors (4-4) finished their spring break trip on a winning note as ESU recorded five individual victories against the Golden Rams. Albany State (4-3) won at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles against the Warriors.
 
ESU would take a 1-0 lead following doubles competition as junior Marina Zardet and sophomore Quinn McCluskey won 6-2 at the No. 1 position for the Warriors. Albany State's LaToya Boyd and Alani Gauthier tallied a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot before the Golden Rams forfeited the third doubles match.
 
Zardet delivered a 6-2, 6-2 win for ESU at the top singles position against Ana Forero, while McCluskey defeated Boyd 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Sophomore Amanda Jackson and senior Lauren Morrissey tallied wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions for ESU.
 
Jackson would be victorious 6-3, 6-3 against Jordan Foston, while Morrissey claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win against Gauthier. Sophomore Briana Young won at No. 6 singles via forfeit for the Warriors. Albany State's Keyera McDowell won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to give the Golden Rams their lone point of the match.
 
The Warriors are back in action on March 29 as ESU heads to Jefferson for a matchup against the Rams at 2 p.m. ESU hosts its first spring contest on April 5 against the University of the Sciences at 2 p.m.
