EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Kaitlyn Caleen had three hits and a pair of RBIs, and she threw out a pair of runners trying to steal in a 9-1 victory for East Stroudsburg University over Bloomfield in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader at Zimbar Field.

Caleen gunned down another runner on the basepaths while contributing two more hits in the nightcap, but the visiting Bears earned a 5-1 win to salvage an afternoon split.

That setback snapped a season-long six-game winning streak for ESU (15-13), while Bloomfield improved its overall record to 5-10.

Four Warriors had multi-hit games in the opener. Sophomore Ashley Spencer went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, senior Madison Vicendese was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, and redshirt freshman Marissa Govan finished 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.

Freshman Mikayla Pourby, meanwhile, won her third-straight decision in the circle to move to 7-2 on the year. She struck out seven batters, one shy of her season high, and allowed four hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Vicendese, Spencer and Pourby all delivered RBI hits during a four-run third inning which upped ESU's lead to 6-0, and the Warriors took an 8-1 advantage into the bottom of the sixth. Caleen, who started the frame with a leadoff triple, crossed the plate on an RBI fielder's choice by sophomore Mickayla Grow to seal the victory.

Senior Angelica Dark was a hard-luck loser in Game 2, as she surrendered just one unearned run while striking out three in 5 1/3 innings of work. Bloomfield scored three unearned runs in the fourth and tacked on two more insurance tallies in the following frame.

Junior Kaylee Hazewski, the Division II leader in steals per game, added four more stolen bases across both games. She upped her season total to 36, moving her within eight of Jen Veronesi's ESU single-season record of 44 from the 2007 season. Hazewski is already 11 steals ahead of her previous season-best of 25 from her freshman year in 2017.

Caleen upped her season batting average to .313 with her five hits on the afternoon, and she has now thrown out 13 runners trying to steal in 28 games this spring.

ESU will host Millersville in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader on Friday to open up the PSAC portion of its schedule. The site of the contests, either Zimbar Field on-campus or Creekview Park in Stroudsburg, will be announced later this week.
