STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University concluded its first afternoon at Creekview Park in style, as redshirt freshman
Marissa Govan drilled a walk-off double to left-center to give the Warriors a 3-2 victory over Millersville in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader.
The win sealed a split for ESU (16-14, 1-1 PSAC) after the Marauders (15-16, 1-1 PSAC) took the first contest by a 5-3 final. Freshman
Mikayla Pourby added three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs across both games for the Warriors.
Pourby drove in the first two runs for ESU in Game 2, as she delivered a two-out, two-run double to left field to put the home side in front 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
Millersville tied the score at 2-2 on a solo tally in the sixth to set up Govan's heroics. Junior
Kaylee Hazewski led off the seventh with a bunt single to third, and Govan came through with the game-winning hit on an 0-2 count.
Senior
Angelica Dark earned her fifth win of the season in the circle, as she struck out three while surrendering seven hits in a complete-game effort.
The Marauders used a pair of two-run homers by Brianna Battavio and Brianna White to take a 4-1 lead in the opener through three and a half innings.
Pourby reduced the deficit to 4-3 on a two-run blast which easily cleared the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth, but ESU was held off the scoreboard in each of its final three trips to the plate. An RBI double by Maggie Murphy in the sixth provided an insurance run for the visitors.
Pourby went 2 for 3 at the plate in Game 1, while sophomore
Kaitlyn Caleen finished 2 for 2 with a walk and a pair of runs scored. Freshman
Rachel Seiverd drove in the first Warrior run on an RBI single in the second.
Despite suffering just her third defeat of the season, Pourby struck out a season-high nine batters while going the distance in the circle. She has struck out 16 hitters across her last two starts spanning 12 1/3 innings.
ESU will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Chestnut Hill for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 p.m (UPDATE: Sunday's start time has been moved back to 2 p.m. due to potential rain in the morning).
