Mikayla Pourby and sophomore
Mickayla Grow each recorded complete-game shutouts in the circle, as East Stroudsburg University blanked Goldey-Beacom by final scores of 3-0 and 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors (18-14) have now won 18 of their past 24 contests overall, and they completed a doubleheader sweep of the Lightning (7-17) for a second-straight year.
Pourby lowered her season ERA to 1.95 while going the distance for a sixth time in 14 starts in the opener. She gave up four hits and struck out three to improve her overall record to 8-3.
All of the Warrior offense came with two outs in the first inning. Senior
Madison Vicendese and sophomore
Kaitlyn Caleen started the rally with back-to-back singles, and both scored on a triple by sophomore
Ashley Spencer to right field. Spencer was then brought home on an opposite-field single by Pourby.
Goldey-Beacom had only one runner advance beyond first base in the final four innings of the contest.
ESU made the most of its six hits in Game 2, plating solo runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings and adding a pair of tallies in the sixth.
Freshman
Denva Shaw-Tait opened the scoring with an RBI single, highlighting her return to the lineup after a two-week injury absence. Freshman
Rachel Seiverd delivered a pair of RBIs, including a run-scoring triple in the fourth. Vicendese and Caleen drove in the final two runs in the sixth.
Vicendese picked up her team-leading 12th multi-hit game of the season, as she went 2 for 4 from the No. 3 spot in the lineup to increase her season average to .370. Redshirt freshman
Marissa Govan chipped in two hits, a walk and a stolen base, while sophomore
Sofia Cecchin swiped her 18th and 19th bags of the year.
Grow kept the home side's offense in check throughout the nightcap, giving up six hits without walking a batter over her seven innings of work. The shutout was her first of the season and the second overall of her collegiate career. She is now 5-1 on the year with a 3.25 ERA.
The Warriors are scheduled to return to action Friday afternoon, hosting PSAC East-rival West Chester in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Creekview Park.
