EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Krista Mitarotonda scored all five of her goals in the opening half, and senior Emma Rufolo added three goals and two assists in a 16-7 victory for No. 7 East Stroudsburg University over Chestnut Hill in its 2019 home opener on Thursday.

The Warriors (2-1) took control with a 9-0 run that stretched across 26 minutes of game action, breaking open what had been a 3-3 tie midway through the first half. Eight different ESU players had at least one point in the victory.

Mitarotonda, who recorded her third-straight five-goal game to begin the season, had each of the first three goals during the Warriors' extended run. She and sophomore Gianna LeDuc each scored in the final minute of the opening half to give ESU a 9-3 lead heading into the break.

Junior Hana Cicerelle, senior TJ Jefferis and sophomore Shannon Dent each supplied goals in the first 6:10 of the second half to complete the nine-goal outburst. The Warriors upped their lead to as large as 16-5 before the Griffins (1-2) tacked on the final two goals of the contest.

Cicerelle filled up the scoresheet for ESU, totaling two goals, two assists, five caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls. Dent (2 G, 1 A), Jefferis (2 G, 1 A) and LeDuc (1 G, 2 A) each chipped in three points for the home side.

The Warriors ended the afternoon with a 35-22 advantage in shots, and they allowed Chestnut Hill to be successful on just 12 of 23 clearing attempts. Senior Brooke Fritz (1 G, 1 A) and sophomore Abbey Castor (1 A) rounded out the scoring.

Junior Tatyana Petteway made seven saves in goal before giving way to freshman McKenzie Gaghan for the final 3:14 of the contest.
