EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Hana Cicerelle matched a career-high with five goals, while sophomore
Krista Mitarotonda (4 G, 1 A) recorded her 100th point in just her 23rd collegiate appearance, but it was not enough for No. 7 East Stroudsburg University in a tight 11-10 home loss to No. 14 Pace on Saturday.
The Warriors see their season record even up at 2-2, with both defeats coming to nationally-ranked opposition. Emma Rafferty had the tying and go-ahead goals for the Setters (2-1) in the final six minutes of regulation.
ESU led on five separate occasions on the afternoon. Two goals from Cicerelle and an unassisted strike by junior
Cassidy McKenna had the home side up 3-0 midway through the opening half.
Pace scored five of the next six goals to take its first lead, but a 3-0 run by the Warriors over the final six minutes have them a 7-5 advantage heading into the intermission.
The last of Cicerelle's goals made it 10-9, ESU, with 7:29 left in the contest. Rafferty leveled up the score with 5:54 remaining, and she scored the game-winning strike 53 seconds later.
Mitarotonda upped her season points total to 25 (19 G, 6 A), and she has 101 points (86 G, 15 A) during her time with the Warriors.
Cicerelle had previously scored five goals during a 17-12 win over Lock Haven last April. She ranks second on the team with 13 goals and five assists through ESU's first four games this season.
