No. 9 ESU Lacrosse Tops Lock Haven 21-11, Increases Win Streak to Seven

Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sophomore Krista Mitarotonda scored seven goals, the most by an East Stroudsburg University player in four years, and junior Tatyana Petteway recorded her 500th career save as the Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 21-11 victory at Lock Haven on Tuesday.

No. 9 ESU (9-2, 6-0 PSAC) won its seventh-straight overall, and improved to 4-0 in the past four seasons against the Bald Eagles (3-7, 1-4 PSAC). Sophomore Shannon Dent set a new career-high points total for a third time in the past four contests, as she supplied two goals and five assists in the victory.

Little separated the two sides in the opening half, as the teams combined for five ties and four lead changes prior to the intermission. The Warriors scored four of the final six goals to take a slim 10-9 advantage into the break.

That score held for the first five minutes of the second half, but a free position goal by Dent opened the floodgates for the visitors, who outscored Lock Haven by an 11-2 margin the rest of the way. The ESU defense limited the hosts to 11 shots in the final 30 minutes, with only six of those efforts directed on target.

Petteway finished with 11 saves, as she became the fifth Warrior goalie to make 500 stops in her collegiate career. She has 504 saves through her first 48 appearances at ESU, and entered today ranked third in Division II this season in save percentage.

Mitarotonda, meanwhile, was active offensively throughout the afternoon, as she managed four goals in the first half and added three more in the second. She had previously scored six goals in a game on three separate occasions; the last Warrior to score seven was Kaitlynn Wiltraut during an 18-8 win over Edinboro on April 18, 2015. Mitarotonda ranks third in the PSAC in goals per game (3.73, 41 goals overall).

Dent has now contributed 13 points in ESU's last two victories, and her five assists today were the most by any Warrior player this season. Senior Emma Rufolo added a season-high nine draw controls to go along with a pair of goals, while junior Hana Cicerelle chipped in four goals and an assist.

Senior TJ Jefferis (3 G), junior Cassidy McKenna (2 G, 1 A) and senior Brooke Fritz (1 G, 1 A) rounded out the scoring for ESU. Jefferis registered her third-consecutive hat trick and her 16th overall at ESU. Sophomore Kayleigh Pokrivka also picked up her first assist of the season late in the first half, and she matched Rufolo for the team lead with four ground balls.

The Warriors continue a stretch of three-straight road games on Saturday, when they travel to IUP for a PSAC tilt beginning at 1 p.m.
