No. 9 ESU Lacrosse Falls 12-10 at IUP, Drops First PSAC Contest of 2019

INDIANA, Pa. – Adriana Greco scored two of her team-high three goals during a decisive 3-0 run to end the contest, helping IUP upset No. 9 East Stroudsburg University by a 12-10 final on Saturday.

Senior Emma Rufolo, senior TJ Jefferis and sophomore Brielle Curtis all recorded hat tricks for the Warriors (9-3, 6-1 PSAC), but their seven-game winning streak was halted after the Crimson Hawks (5-5, 3-3 PSAC) scored seven of the game's 11 goals in the second half.

With ESU trailing by two goals with under 20 minutes remaining, Rufolo scored all three of her goals during a 4-1 run which put the visitors ahead 10-9 with 10:32 left. Greco leveled the score with 7:44 on the clock, and she fired in the game-winner 60 seconds later. Katie Martyn added an insurance marker for IUP with 3:25 remaining.

The Warriors held a 6-5 advantage at the intermission. There were a total of nine ties on the afternoon, with neither side ever leading by more than two goals.

IUP goalie Carly Mansur made eight of her 15 saves in the second half, as the kept the Warriors off the scoreboard for the final 10 minutes. Junior Tatyana Petteway finished with 11 saves in goal for ESU, which had a slim 29-27 edge in shots.

Jefferis notched her fourth-consecutive hat trick, and she moved into a tie for ninth place in team history with 169 career points. She has 106 goals and 63 assists across 66 appearances for the Warriors.

Curtis, who made her season debut in a 21-11 win at Lock Haven on Tuesday, scored her first three goals of 2019. Sophomore Shannon Dent added three assists in the defeat, while sophomore Krista Mitarotonda was the other goal scorer for ESU.

The Warriors will look to get back on track Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to Kutztown for a PSAC matchup scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
