KUTZTOWN, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University's offense was held in check by Kutztown on Saturday, as the Golden Bears secured 4-1 and 8-2 victories to complete a PSAC East doubleheader sweep.
Junior
Kaylee Hazewski reached base four times across both games, finishing the afternoon 3 for 6 with a walk and three stolen bases. She is up to 39 steals on the year, a total which leads the PSAC and ranks in the top five in all of Division II.
Freshman
Mikayla Pourby drove in the lone run for the Warriors (18-16, 1-3 PSAC) in Game 1, as she plated freshman
Lexi Wright on an RBI double in the second inning. Cheyenne Jones scored the go-ahead runs for Kutztown (20-13, 5-3 PSAC) on a three-run home run to center field in the fourth.
Amber Brugger picked up the win in the circle for the home side, allowing six hits and striking out six in a complete-game effort. Pourby, Hazewski and sophomore
Sofia Cecchin had two hits apiece for ESU in the opener.
An RBI double for Jones capped a four-run first inning which gave the Golden Bears an early advantage in Game 2. The Warrior runs came in the top half of the sixth, with redshirt freshman
Marissa Govan lifting a sacrifice fly to right field and sophomore
Kaitlyn Caleen adding an RBI single to left.
Bridget Bailey earned her 10th win for the Golden Bears, fanning nine batters while giving up six hits. Sophomore
Mickayla Grow worked 5 1/3 effective innings for ESU, allowing just two earned runs in relief.
The Warriors are right back in action at Creekview Park on Sunday afternoon, as they host West Chester in a 1 p.m. PSAC East doubleheader at Vigon International Field.
