EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior
Lauren Morrissey recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles competition and teamed up with freshman
Charity McLeod for a 6-4 doubles win as the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team defeated Shippensburg 7-0 in its PSAC East home opener on Saturday.
The Warriors (5-5, 1-1) returned to the court after their match against the University of the Sciences was postponed on Friday due to inclement weather. Shippensburg (1-12, 0-2) dropped its third consecutive match and second conference matchup after falling 7-0 against Kutztown on Tuesday.
Junior
Marina Zardet and sophomore
Quinn McCluskey opened the match for ESU with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles against the Golden Rams' Gabbie Binder and Megan Moorhead. The duo improved to 5-1 this season, while Morrissey and McLeod followed with a 6-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles to help ESU take a 1-0 lead into singles competition.
McCluskey rallied at the No. 2 singles position for the Warriors after falling behind 6-4 in the opening set. She would record a 6-1 win in the second set along with a 6-0 win in the decisive third set against Binder. Zardet improved to 6-3 in dual matches at the No. 1 position for the Warriors after recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Shippensburg's Kaylin Gallagher.

Aubrianna Stetina notched a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles for ESU, while sophomore
Amanda Jackson was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at the No. 4 position. The Warriors also took a point at the No. 6 singles position and No. 3 doubles position via forfeit.
The Warriors head to Bloomsburg on Wednesday for a PSAC East matchup against the Huskies at 4 p.m. ESU is back home on April 16 as the Warriors face Millersville at Wolbers Courts beginning at 2 p.m.
