Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing 110-minutes worth of soccer has become quite normal for the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team this season. The Warriors played to a 2-2 draw against the Jefferson Rams in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon.
ESU (2-0-2) rallied to send the game into overtime as senior
Mateo Laredo-Fernandez scored his first goal of the season in the 90th minute to knot the score 2-2. All four goals in the contest would be scored after the 60th minute of action.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Evan Miele helped ESU keep the Rams off the scoreboard after tallying three saves in the opening half. Jefferson goalkeeper Stephen Paul also kept both opportunities that he faced from the Warriors out of the net. Jefferson held a 3-1 advantage in corners, while ESU went into the half with a 6-4 edge in shots.
Jefferson would break the scoreless contest at the 61:00 mark as Val Mokrejs headed a corner from Charlie Livesey into the left-side of the net and past Miele to make it 1-0 in favor of the home side.
The Rams doubled their lead in the 70th minute as Theophilus Ijeboi took a pass from Livesey and deposited his shot underneath a diving Miele to make it 2-0.
Applying pressure as time ticked off the clock, the Warriors would finally beat Paul off a header from freshman
Bradley Turocy that found the right side of the net. The ball was played in from the left-side off a corner from junior
Oliver Lundberg to make it 2-1. Turocy has seven points in his last two games for the Warriors after recording a two-goal outing against Felician.
In the final minute of regulation, Laredo-Fernandez found himself in the left corner of the box and would receive a feed from Turocy that allowed him to beat Paul and knot the score 2-2.
Miele made a pair of saves for ESU in the second overtime to keep the Warriors alive, while Paul made a save in both overtime frames for the Rams. Miele (2-0-2) finished with six saves for ESU, while Paul (0-0-1) made nine in net for Jefferson.
The Warriors open PSAC East action at home on September 17 against West Chester at Eiler-Martin Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Rams are currently the top-ranked men's soccer team in Division II.
