United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll
EAST STROUDSBURG – After defeating a pair of nationally-ranked teams a week ago, the East Stroudsburg University women's team found itself ranked 16th in the latest United Soccer Coaches DII poll. The Warriors would drop a 1-0 decision against No. 9 West Chester on Tuesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
ESU (3-1, 2-1 PSAC East) allowed its first goal of the season in the 30th minute and sophomore goalkeeper
Mauri Jackson saw her streak of not allowing a goal end after 300-plus minutes of soccer.
The Warriors find themselves ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since Sept. 8, 2018, and have been in the national poll each season now since 2012. The longest stretch of ESU being ranked in a single-season came in 2016 as the Warriors were in the Top 25 for 19 consecutive weeks.
Both teams recorded four shots on goal in the opening half, while West Chester goalkeeper Brooke Myers denied all-four opportunities by ESU. Katie Crouthamel broke the scoreless tie for the Golden Rams in the 30th minute as her shot beat Jackson to the right to make it 1-0.
ESU looked to even the score in the second half as the Warriors recorded four shots on goal. Myers would keep her team in front as she thwarted shot after shot on frame from ESU.
Senior
Monica Wood, sophomore
Corryn Gamber, and freshman
Melissa Herrera each tallied two shots on goal for ESU in the contest. Sophomore
Caitlin Nicholls had the other shot on goal for the Warriors.
Despite allowing the goal in the first half, Jackson (3-1) recorded seven saves in net for ESU, while Myers (4-0) stopped eight shots to record the shutout.
The Warriors travel to Mansfield on Saturday for a PSAC East match against Mansfield before returning home to host Bloomsburg on Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m.
