BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's and women's cross country programs opened their 2019 seasons on Saturday at the Husky Invitational in Bloomsburg as the men captured the 6k team title and the women placed second in the 4k standings.
The ESU men finished the 6k course with a time of 1:41.04, while Mansfield placed second with a time of 1:43.53 and Bloomsburg with a time of 1:44.13.
Junior
Casey Ellis crossed the finish line first in the individual standings with a time of 19:49, six seconds ahead of fellow junior
Teddy Mostellar (19:55). Senior
Jeremy Smith ran to a third-place finish with a time of 20:02. The Warriors also claimed positions eight through 11 in the race (
Jeremy Rapposelli,
Nathan Senatore, Andrew Lopez, and
Alex Race).
The ESU women completed the 4k course with a time of 1:21.16 which was just off the pace of Bloomsburg (1:21.14). Mansfield placed third with a time of 1:26.33.
Senior
Rachael Davalos and junior Amanda Fine were the top finishers for ESU as both crossed the line with a time of 16:05. Senior
Jenna Vledder crossed the line in seventh with a time of 16:17, while sophomore Kylee Stangle placed eighth with a time of 16:19. Sophomore
Holly Orr recorded a 10th-place finish with a time of 16:30.
Junior
Brittany Carratura and senior
Emily Eder also scored for ESU with 12th and 13th-place finishes on the day.
The Warriors return to action on September 21 at the Mercer-Monmouth Invitational in West Long Branch, New Jersey. ESU then heads to the Don Cathcart Invitational on October 5 in Salisbury, Maryland.
