Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Hannah Barbush scored less than two minutes into the second overtime frame on Sunday to lift third-ranked East Stroudsburg University past eighth-ranked Stonehill 1-0 at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors (2-0) controlled the tempo of the contest from the opening whistle as ESU outshot Stonehill 10-0. ESU also had eight penalty corners in the opening frame against the Skyhawks.

ESU continued that trend in the second quarter tallying seven shots overall. The Warriors would be unable to beat Stonehill goalkeeper Katie Lammando, who made 10 saves in the first half for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill established some momentum against the Warriors in the third quarter as Elisha Brinkman and Olivia Cameron recorded shots on goal that would be denied by ESU goalkeeper Maddie Richie. Sophomore Celeste Veenstra had the lone shot on goal for ESU in the quarter.

The Warriors turned on the pressure once again in the fourth quarter as they fired four shots on frame. Lammando would stand tall yet again for the Skyhawks as she kept ESU off the scoreboard.

The first overtime period saw a total of five shots that would need to be stopped by both goalkeepers. Richie made her third save of the contest at the 66:31 mark as Mackenzie Quigley tried to beat the Warrior netminder.

ESU would need just one shot in the second overtime to finally beat Lammando as Barbush found a loose ball in the crease and found the back of the net at the 71:32 mark to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory. Barbush's goal was her second in as many days for the Warriors.

Richie (2-0) made three saves in the contest and recorded her second straight shutout for ESU, while Lammando (0-2) recorded 17 saves in net for Stonehill. ESU held a 37-3 advantage in shots, including a 20-3 margin in shots on goal. ESU also had 23 penalty corners in the contest.

Veenstra finished with a game-high seven shots on goal for the Warriors, while senior Emily Spangler tallied four shots on goal. Barbush recorded a pair of shots on frame for ESU, while senior Grace Martini and junior Jordyn Wigglesworth each had two shots.

ESU travels to Molloy on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup against the Lions and returns to Whitenight Field on September 14 for a matchup against Slippery Rock at 12 p.m.
