ESU Baseball Wins Fourth Straight with 5-2 Victory against Le Moyne

CARY, NC – A three-run sixth inning propelled the East Stroudsburg University baseball team to a 5-2 victory against Le Moyne on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

ESU (5-1) won all four of its contests over the weekend, including a pair against the Dolphins. The Warriors tallied their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth inning as junior Brainy Rojas delivered a single.

It would be senior pitcher Connor Johnson who started for the Warriors on the mound. Johnson retired the first seven batters that he faced and recorded three strikeouts. Le Moyne scored the first run of the game against Johnson in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out single that made it 1-0.

ESU answered by knotting the score 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning as junior Tommy Dunleavy plated Rojas with a run-scoring single. The Dolphins quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the frame following a pair of errors by ESU.

Trailing 2-1 entering the top of the sixth inning, senior Anthony Torreullas and sophomore Logan Stirr recorded run-scoring hits for ESU to make it 3-1. The Warriors also plated a run off an error by Le Moyne to increase their lead to 4-1.

The ESU bullpen would lock things down the rest of the way against the Dolphins as redshirt senior Brett Lubreski, sophomore JP Nolan, and senior CJ Gonzales combined to allow just one hit over the final five innings.

Lubreski retired six of the seven batters that he faced through two innings of relief, while Nolan retired all six batters in his two innings of work. Gonzales tossed the ninth inning for the Warriors and recorded his first save of the season after working around a two-out single by the Dolphins.

ESU tallied a run in the top of the ninth inning to give Gonzales a three-run cushion as senior CJ Lopez plated junior Brock Kauffman with a run-scoring single to make it 5-2. Lubreski earned the win for ESU after tossing the fifth and sixth innings.

The Warriors head to Dinwiddie, Virginia next weekend for three games as ESU prepares for its home opener against Jefferson on February 28 at Creekview Park.
