EAST STROUDSBURG - The 11
th-ranked East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team had six players record multi-point performances in a 15-7 victory over Georgian Court on Saturday in the Warriors' 2020 season opener at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors spread the wealth on the offensive end in Saturday's victory.
Gianna LeDuc led the way with a five-point effort on three goals and two assists, and
Juliane Fitzsimmons added a career-high four points on a goal and a career-best three assists.
Shannon Dent and
Bailey McMaster each tied their career highs with three goals in the contest, while
Krista Mitarotonda notched two goals and one helper, and
Cassidy McKenna tallied a pair of goals to round out the team's multi-point performances.
Senior goalie
Tatyana Petteway, who led all of Division II in save percentage in 2019, made five saves and collected the win between the pipes.
Kayleigh Pokrivka and
Maggie Sell notched three caused turnovers each on the defensive end.
The Warriors outshot the Lions 38-20 in the contest and held an 18-6 advantage on draw controls. Mitarotonda (6),
Madison Bagatta (4) and
Kiki Fitzpatrick (4) led the team in draws.
ESU dominated the early stages of the contest, scoring the opening six goals of the game in a span of just over 12 minutes. Dent and LeDuc each netted a pair of goals during the stretch, which propelled the Warriors out to a 6-0 advantage at the 17:41 mark.
Following Georgian Court's first goal of the contest, the Warriors rattled off three consecutive tallies, including a pair from McMaster, to grab their largest advantage of the game, 9-1.
The Lions were able to tally the final two goals of the half, both coming from Shaine Sauter, to close the gap to 9-3 heading into the half.
Georgian Court (0-3) got a little momentum early in the second half, scoring two of the opening three goals of the frame, which brought them back within four, 10-6, with 24:07 on the clock.
ESU put an end to the run on McKenna's first tally of the game, and LeDuc added another at the 15:26 mark to complete her hat trick and make it a 12-6 contest. Bagatta and McKenna followed with back-to-back scores to push the advantage to 14-6, which essentially iced the game for the Warriors.
McMaster's goal with 1:24 remaining gave her a hat trick and helped closed out the 15-7 victory for ESU.
The Warriors head down to Florida for their next game, as they take on Saint Leo on February 28 at 7 p.m.
