Big First Half Leads No. 12 ESU Lacrosse to 20-5 Victory Against Gannon

WINTER PARK, Fla. – East Stroudsburg University scored 15 goals in the first half en route to a big 20-5 victory against Gannon in a neutral site women's lacrosse matchup on Sunday at Rollins College.

Cassidy McKenna (4g, 1a) and Hana Cicerelle (2g, 3a) notched a game-high five points apiece to lead the Warriors in the win. Cicerelle also added five draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Krista Mitarotonda, who was coming off a career-high eight goals last time out, added three in Sunday's tilt. Shannon Dent and Gianna LeDuc tallied two goals each, and seven other players scored a goal apiece as a total of 12 Warriors scored in the contest.

Tatyana Petteway made three saves in 30 minutes of action to earn the win, and Michelle Dyck finished things out with a pair of saves in the second half.

The Warriors posted a 22-8 shot advantage over the Knights in the opening half, and were able to capitalize on their opportunities, outscoring Gannon by a 15-3 margin in the frame. ESU had 11 different players score at least one goal in the half, with Mitarotonda and McKenna leading the way with three apiece.

ESU scored the first six goals of the contest, fueled by a pair from both McKenna and Mitarotonda, to jump out to a 6-0 lead in just 5:39 of action.

Gannon answered with two of the next three goals to make it a 7-2 game, but ESU would take over from there, registering eight straight tallies over a 17-minute stretch to pad the lead to 15-2 late in the half. The Warriors spread things out on offense during the dominating stretch as all eight goals were scored by different players.

The Warriors carried a 15-3 lead into the halftime break, and got the opening pair of goals in the second half from LeDuc and Dent to extend the advantage to 17-3 at the 23:26 mark.

ESU cruised to victory from there and got three more goals along the way from McKenna, Cicerelle and Brooke Rickey to finish off the 20-5 win and improve to 3-0 on the year while handing Gannon (3-1) its first loss of the season.

The Warriors outshot Gannon 33-13 in the game and held advantages in both draw controls (17-10) and ground balls (18-11).

ESU returns to action on March 7 for its first PSAC game of the season at home against Millersville at 1 p.m.
