Volleyball Falls to Shepherd in Three Sets

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team returned to Koehler Fieldhouse on Friday night and dropped 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-22) decision to Shepherd in their conference opener at home.

The Warriors fall to 4-8 on the season and drop to 1-1 in conference play while the Rams win their 12th straight match to move to 13-1 and 2-0 in the PSAC.

Shepherd proved to be too much to handle for the Warriors in the first two sets and rallied from down as many as six points in the final set to earn the victory.

Notables

- Senior Ali Finch finished with four kills, seven digs and a team-high 15 assists

- Senior Kenzie Guimont registered a team-high five kills to go along with three digs

- Senior Emily Meredith recorded a team-high 15 digs while freshman Makaela McComas added 13

How it Happened

- With the first set tied at 3-3, the Rams used a 7-0 run to grab a 10-3 lead which forced the Warriors into a timeout. Out of the stoppage, Shepherd kept the momentum rolling as they built a 18-8 advantage before ESU called its second timeout. The Rams would go on to win the set 25-12, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

- The teams traded points at the beginning of the second set and the Warriors were within one at 12-11, before the Rams scored six of the next eight points to jump out in front 18-13. Even after a timeout by the Warriors, the Rams could not slowed down as they closed out the set on 7-1 run to win 25-14, and take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

- ESU would not go away quietly in the fourth set as the score was tied at 6-6 before the Warriors used a 7-2 run to grab a five-point lead. After a timeout by Shepherd, ESU would push their advantage to 16-8 before four straight points by the Rams forced the Warriors to take a timeout with the score at 16-12. Shepherd would eventually cut ESU's lead to 21-19, and out of a Warriors' timeout, the Rams closed out on a 6-1 run to win the set and match.
