Warriors Get Back to Winning Ways with 2-0 Win over Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. -- After a pair of tough losses against nationally-ranked foes, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Mansfield at Karl Van Norman Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors improve to 6-6-1, 5-6-1 in conference action, while Mansfield drops to 1-10, 0-9-2 in PSAC play.

Teagan Marshall and Rebecca Kotula registered goals for the Warriors in the win. Millie Smith tallied an assist on Marshall's opening goal.

Notables

  • Marshall's goal is the second goal in the last two games for the freshman from Colorado.
  • Kotula connected on her third goal of the season during the second half. She is now tied with Mirthe Bos for second on the team in goals and holds sole possession in points with seven.
  • GK Mauri Jackson posted her third clean sheet of the season with two saves in 90 minutes of work. MU's Stephanie Moir registered six saves.

How It Happened

  •  22:09 | Smith sent an impressive pass from the near side to the far side, right to Marshall who was sprinting towards the net. Marshall would direct the ball towards the net, settling right before the incoming goalkeeper could gain possession. Marshall was able to sneak a shot just prior to the goalkeeper from arriving for her second goal over the past two games.
  • 56:13 | The Warriors added an insurance goal during the 57th minute of play, as Kotula rocketed a free kick that found the back of the net from 35 yards out. The ball would bounce past the Mountaineer goalkeeper and into the goal.

Up Next: The Warriors are back in action on Thursday on the road at Staten Island. The contest is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at Dolphin Soccer Complex.
